The household operations dataset
How much work does running a home actually take — and how do real households split it? How often do families deep-clean the kitchen, change the sheets, audit their subscriptions, or hold a family meeting? Every answer site guesses. Fam is building the dataset that measures it.
It arrives as households join. There are no numbers on this page yet — and there won't be until they're real.
What we'll publish
- Chores per household, by household size and type
- Time spent per chore category — cleaning, meals, maintenance, admin
- Rotation norms: how often real households actually change sheets, deep-clean, and switch seasonal clothes
- How the work is shared across household members — what "fair share" really looks like
- Seasonal load curves: when the work peaks, by category
The rules, before any number exists
- Aggregates only. Means and medians. Raw records are never published, exported, or sold.
- No group smaller than 50 households. If fewer than 50 households match a cell, that number is never published — no exceptions.
- No personal data. Names, emails, addresses, and the contents of your household never enter any dataset.
- Isolation by default. Each household lives in its own isolated, encrypted database, and export-and-delete is always yours.
Status: coming as households join. Fam is young. The first release lands once 100+ households have run their homes in Fam for a few months — medians only, refreshed quarterly after that.
When a number appears on this page, it will be measured, aggregated, and at least 50 households deep. Until then, this page says nothing.
Run your home in Fam, and this dataset gets closer.
