Holiday Cleaning Checklist

The holidays bring people through your front door, so this sheet works room by room instead of as one giant to-do list. Work through it in the week before guests arrive, then run the short day-before list so the morning feels calm instead of rushed.

Room-by-room guest-ready clean

One pass per room is enough. Print one sheet per floor if your house spreads out.

Room	What to do	Done
Entry hall	Clear shoes, coats and mail; wipe the door, knobs and light switch; make room for guest coats
Living room	Declutter surfaces, fluff cushions, vacuum, dust the TV screen and shelves
Kitchen	Clear the counters, wipe appliances, take out recycling, empty the trash and put in a fresh bag
Guest bathroom	Scrub the sink and toilet, fresh towels, stocked toilet paper, wipe the mirror
Dining area	Wipe the table and chairs, polish the table surface, count chairs against your guest list
Spare room / guest bed	Fresh sheets, clear a drawer and some hanging space, working lamp, clear a nightstand spot
Windows and glass	Streak-clean interior windows and glass doors where guests will sit
Floors	Vacuum all main rooms, mop the kitchen and bathroom floors last so they dry clean
Hallways and stairs	Clear trip hazards, wipe handrails, check night lights work
Smells and finishing touches	Take the trash out, open windows for ten minutes, set out one simple scent like simmering spices

Timing it out

Spread the big work across the week so the day before is only a touch-up.

7 days before	Deep-clean the guest bathroom and guest bedding; wash and fold guest towels
5 days before	Declutter living room, entry and dining area; donate or store anything in the way
3 days before	Kitchen reset: counters, fridge shelf wipe, dish towels, clear the sink of dishes nightly
2 days before	Windows and glass, dust everywhere guests will sit, vacuum main rooms
1 day before	Mop floors last, refresh the bathroom, set the table or staging area, final trash and recycling run
Morning of	Wipe bathroom sink, straighten cushions, quick entry sweep, light a candle or start the kettle
